Massive Rallies by CM Himanta and CEM Pramod Boro Ignite Excitement
With the Bodoland Territorial Council (BTC) elections approaching, political campaigns are gaining momentum across the Bodoland Territorial Region (BTR). Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma recently addressed large gatherings in Kalipukhuri and Khasiyabari on August 25, as part of the Sankalp Samabekh initiative. In his speeches, CM Sarma outlined the BJP’s ambition to emerge as the dominant political force in these elections. He took aim at the current BTC administration and former ruling parties, namely the Bodoland People’s Front (BPF) and the United People’s Party Liberal (UPPL), alleging their inability to foster development in the region.
Sarma stated, “Despite years of BPF and UPPL governance, many areas still lack adequate development. Welfare schemes are not reaching the people, and most government initiatives are not being implemented on time.” He emphasized that should the BJP gain power in the BTC, it would mark the end of corruption and the undue influence of middlemen, particularly in the Village Council Development Committee (VCDC) affairs. Sarma further urged voters to support the BJP, stating, “We want first-class citizens in BTR, not second-class treatment for anyone.”
Meanwhile, BTC Chief Executive Member and UPPL President Pramod Boro showcased UPPL’s strength by holding a rally titled “Harmonious Bodoland” in Kokrajhar, attracting over 20,000 supporters. Boro conveyed his confidence in UPPL’s increasing popularity and asserted that his party aims to secure victories in all 12 BTC constituencies within Kokrajhar district. He remarked, “UPPL is committed to peace, progress, and inclusive development in Bodoland. The massive public support today reflects our strength and the people’s trust in us.”
As campaign fervor intensifies, both BJP and UPPL are making significant efforts to influence the BTC’s political landscape. With heightened voter engagement and large-scale rallies, the forthcoming BTC elections are poised to be among the most closely monitored contests in the region. In addition, BPF Chief Hagrama Mohilary participated in extensive campaigning at Saralpara and Parbatjhara, reinforcing his party’s presence ahead of the elections.
