Shocking Revelation: Telangana Police Dismantle Notorious Sex-Trap Gang!
The Kamareddy police have uncovered a disturbing extortion racket operated by a gang that lures men via dating apps like Grindr. Authorities report that the group has targeted between 50 and 60 victims across multiple districts in Telangana, employing a shocking modus operandi that involves threats and theft in isolated locations, including hotels.
According to police, the gang’s strategy involved initiating conversations with potential victims on Grindr, arranging meetings, and then escorting them to secluded rooms. Once the victims were undressed, gang members would storm in with video cameras, physically assault them, and threaten to share the recordings with their family and friends. “Victims were coerced into handing over cash or transferring money online,” explained a Kamareddy town police officer. One victim reported a loss of ₹56,000 through UPI transfers, while police suspect that the actual cash lost in several incidents may be significantly higher. In total, victims from 11 reported cases in Kamareddy have lost a collective ₹40 lakh, according to law enforcement.
The gang consists of five members identified as Zoheb, Shaib, Muzaffar, and Sarwar, the latter being the financier responsible for handling all transactions. Additionally, a juvenile is reportedly involved in the operation. Police highlighted that the gang often seized victims’ SIM cards to hinder their chances of seeking immediate assistance and relied on the assumption that many would be too embarrassed to report their experiences to law enforcement. “They understood that a significant number would choose to remain silent to avoid exposure,” the officer noted.
Investigators believe that the same gang may be linked to similar incidents in nearby districts such as Sircilla, Nizamabad, Siddipet, Medchal, and Adilabad. While many victims initially opted for silence, a few eventually bravely came forward after enduring significant blackmail and threats. Their testimonies were instrumental in helping police trace the gang’s operations and piece together the broader network. As authorities delve deeper, efforts are underway to track the gang’s financial transactions, with further arrests anticipated in the unfolding investigation.
This alarming case underscores the risks involved with online dating and the importance of vigilance when engaging with strangers through digital platforms. As the Kamareddy police continue to investigate, they urge anyone who may have fallen victim to similar schemes to come forward and report their experiences.
The emergence of this extortion racket highlights the urgent need for awareness around online safety and the challenges posed by anonymity on dating apps. As law enforcement works to dismantle this operation, the community is reminded of the importance of speaking out against such predatory behaviors, fostering a safer environment for all.
