
Empowering Farmers and Students: Join Yangang’s Interactive Millet Program!
The Kisan Gosthi-cum-Millet Transplanting Programme was held today by the Agricultural Technology Management Agency (ATMA) at Upper Tokday ward under the Kolthang Tokday Gram Panchayat Unit (GPU). The event featured Hon’ble Deputy Speaker and Area MLA, Smt. Rajkumari Thapa, as the Chief Guest, alongside numerous dignitaries such as Shri R.K. Basnett, a retired director from the Horticulture Department, and Shri S.B. Rai, officer on special duty (OSD) to the Agriculture Department. Other distinguished attendees included Smt. Denkila Bhutia, Additional Director of the FC Section, Dr. Pratap Subba from the Hon’ble Zilla Panchayat, ward panchayats, Deputy Directors from Agriculture and Horticulture Departments, along with students and teachers from PM Shri Government Senior Secondary School, Lingmoo Kolthang, and various departmental staff.
The programme commenced with a welcome address from Ms. Vaishnu Rai, Deputy Director of Agriculture. Dr. Pratap Subba spoke about the considerable potential of millet cultivation in the subdivision and encouraged farmers to focus on value addition as a means to increase their income.
This was followed by an interactive session where students inquired about the future of millet cultivation and related farming opportunities. Farmers also raised relevant questions, which were thoroughly addressed. Shri Bishnu Ram Niroula took this opportunity to encourage local farmers to adopt practices of value addition, praising the department’s initiatives in promoting agriculture and millet cultivation.
In her remarks, Smt. Rajkumari Thapa urged farmers, students, and young people to view farming as a sustainable career option. She also highlighted the promising prospects of agrotourism in the region. The session wrapped up with a vote of thanks from Ms. Florenz Bhutia, an Assistant Development Officer (ADO).
Later at Mr. Lok Nath Dahal’s fields, dignitaries, staff, students, and farmers participated in the transplanting of millet variety VL-352. This event not only honored the rich tradition of millet cultivation but also underscored the department’s vision of paving a progressive future for agriculture in the region.
