A Groundbreaking Film: Love Across Religions Shakes the Screen
A blockbuster film released in 2015 captured audiences and became a massive success, earning ₹922 crores worldwide. This film was unique not only for its box office performance but also for its production and casting choices. It was directed by a Muslim filmmaker, starred a Muslim hero, and featured a Hindu heroine who was married to a Muslim, intertwining themes of faith and devotion throughout its narrative.
Originally, Allu Arjun was considered the leading candidate to play the film’s protagonist. However, he turned down the opportunity for various reasons, which paved the way for Salman Khan to take on the role. This decision proved pivotal, as the film, titled Bajrangi Bhaijaan, went on to become one of the highest-grossing films of that year, celebrated for its compelling story, remarkable performances, and memorable songs.
Director Kabir Khan approached Allu Arjun with the script before giving it to Salman Khan. Despite Allu’s rising popularity following Pushpa, he was preoccupied with other projects, leading to scheduling conflicts that prevented him from taking the role. Consequently, Bajrangi Bhaijaan premiered in 2015, featuring notable actors like Kareena Kapoor, Nawazuddin Siddiqui, and Harshita Malhotra.
Interestingly, there was a plan for Rakesh Roshan to direct the film, with Hrithik Roshan in the lead role. However, this collaboration fell apart over disagreements on co-production terms, ultimately allowing Salman Khan and Kabir Khan to seize the opportunity instead. Additionally, the role originally offered to Nawazuddin Siddiqui was also considered for Emraan Hashmi, who declined due to the limited scope of the character.
Bajrangi Bhaijaan garnered a staggering ₹432 crores domestically and ₹922 crores globally, making it a standout box office success with a modest budget of just ₹90 crores. The film’s combination of heartwarming storytelling and universal themes of love and devotion solidified its place in the annals of Indian cinema, demonstrating how diverse narratives can resonate with audiences across the spectrum.
