Anand Mishra Joins BJP: A Strategic Move Ahead of Bihar Polls
The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) welcomed three influential figures into its ranks on Tuesday: former IPS officer Anand Mishra, ex-Union Minister Nagmani Kushwaha, and retired bureaucrat Suchitra Sinha. The induction, known as Milan Samaroh, took place at the BJP’s state headquarters in Patna, attended by Deputy Chief Ministers Samrat Choudhary and Vijay Kumar Sinha.
Among the new inductees, Anand Mishra stands out, previously recognized as the “Singham of Assam” for his assertive policing during his tenure as an IPS officer. After resigning nearly seven years ago, he ventured into politics, briefly leading the Youth Wing of Prashant Kishor’s Jan Suraaj Party. In the 2024 Lok Sabha elections, he ran as an Independent but was unsuccessful.
Despite previously being denied a BJP ticket, Mishra’s formal induction is perceived as a strategic decision by the party. Speculation suggests that he may be nominated to contest from the Buxar Assembly constituency, a move that could significantly alter the political landscape in the area.
Reflecting on his path into politics, Mishra stated, “There came a day when I realised I was made for something bigger. That is when I decided to enter politics.”
BJP insiders believe Mishra’s strong connection with the youth and his clean public image could enhance the party’s influence in western Bihar. The addition of seasoned leaders Nagmani Kushwaha and Suchitra Sinha is anticipated to strengthen the BJP’s campaign as it prepares for a competitive electoral battle in the state later this year.
