US First Lady Melania Trump has penned a heartfelt letter to Russian President Vladimir Putin, urging him to bring an end to the war in Ukraine for the sake of children and future generations. The letter, delivered by President Donald Trump in advance of his summit with Putin in Alaska, emphasizes the grave impact of the conflict on children’s lives, describing them as “caught in the crosshairs” of violence. Melania stressed that safeguarding future generations is a shared duty of both parents and global leaders.
This marks her second engagement in US foreign policy concerning Russia and Ukraine. Previously, she had a role in encouraging her husband to bolster military aid to Ukraine and adopt a firmer stance against Moscow. The letter concluded with an urgent appeal for action, urging President Putin not to delay.
While Melania was not present at the summit, President Trump characterized his discussion with Putin as “extremely productive,” although no formal agreements were reached. Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky’s Chief of Staff expressed gratitude to Melania for her appeal, particularly appreciating her call to restore children’s “melodic laughter.”
The United Nations has condemned the suffering endured by Ukrainian children as a result of the ongoing war, which has persisted for over three years. Russia maintains that it is acting to protect children from the conflict zones.
