Unlocking the Future: What You Must Know About PM Modi’s Inauguration of Dwarka Expressway and Urban Extension Road-II!
Prime Minister Narendra Modi is set to inaugurate the Delhi section of the Dwarka Expressway and the Urban Extension Road-II (UER-II) project in the National Capital Region (NCR) on Sunday, August 17, 2024. These ambitious infrastructure projects are collectively valued at ₹11,000 crore and aim to enhance connectivity and ease traffic congestion in the capital. The inauguration event will take place at approximately 12:30 PM in the Rohini area of Delhi, as confirmed by the Prime Minister’s Office (PMO).
Designed as part of an extensive strategy to alleviate congestion in Delhi, both projects promise to significantly reduce travel times and improve access to key areas. The Dwarka Expressway’s Delhi section, spanning 10.1 kilometers and costing around ₹5,360 crore, serves as a crucial artery for multi-modal transport. It will connect to Yashobhoomi, the DMRC Blue and Orange lines, the soon-to-be-operational Bijwasan railway station, and the Dwarka cluster Bus Depot. This segment comprises two packages: the first, measuring 5.9 kilometers, runs from the Shiv Murti intersection to the Road Under Bridge (RUB) at Dwarka Sector-21, while the second extends 4.2 kilometers from Dwarka Sector-21 RUB to the Delhi-Haryana border, directly linking to the Urban Extension Road-II.
Earlier this year, in March 2024, PM Modi inaugurated the 19-kilometer Haryana section of the Dwarka Expressway, demonstrating a commitment to improving regional connectivity.
The Urban Extension Road-II is another critical component of this initiative. It aims to ease the traffic burden on Delhi’s Inner and Outer Ring Roads, focusing on high-traffic areas such as Mukarba Chowk, Dhaula Kuan, and NH-09. Constructed at a cost of ₹5,580 crore, the UER-II will open up the Alipur to Dichaon Kalan stretch, along with new routes to Bahadurgarh and Sonipat. The PMO highlighted that these new paths will not only offer direct connectivity to industrial hubs but also enhance the overall movement of goods throughout the NCR.
“This infrastructure development will alleviate congestion, facilitate industrial connectivity, and streamline the movement of goods,” the PMO noted in a recent press release.
The inauguration of these projects reflects the government’s ongoing commitment to modernizing transportation in urban areas. As travel times decrease and connectivity improves, residents of Delhi and its neighboring regions can expect a more efficient transit experience.
In summary, the upcoming inauguration of the Delhi section of the Dwarka Expressway and the Urban Extension Road-II stands as a pivotal development in India’s infrastructure landscape, affirming PM Modi’s focus on connectivity and sustainable urban planning in the NCR. As the nation moves forward, these projects will play an essential role in shaping the future of transportation in the capital and beyond.
