Urgent Arrest: Soreng Police Seize Contraband Capsules from Drug Peddler
Sikkim’s Soreng District Police apprehended a 32-year-old man and confiscated illegal substances during a late-night operation in Nayabazar on August 16.
The operation was conducted following surveillance information, leading officers from the Naya Bazar Police Station to intercept a taxi (SK04J/0015) near the Forest Bungalow at approximately 9:03 PM. The driver, identified as Passang Bhutia, son of the late Jangbo Bhutia and resident of Housing Colony, Nayabazar, was discovered with 144 Windlas Winspasmo Forte capsules, which were packed in 18 strips. Additionally, police recovered ₹4,600 in cash from his possession.
The search occurred under the supervision of Pramila Gurung, the Block Development Officer (BDO) of Baiguney. Authorities have initiated a case against Bhutia under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act of 1985 and the Sikkim Anti-Drugs Act of 2006.
Bhutia is described by police as a habitual drug peddler and had been previously monitored by law enforcement. His vehicle, along with the seized drugs, has been taken into custody.
The Soreng District Police have reiterated their commitment to eradicating drug-related issues in the area and have urged residents to cooperate in combating substance abuse.
