Devastating Mumbai Rains LIVE Updates: Monsoon Mayhem Delays 350+ Flights; 75 Injured in Dahi Handi Chaos!

Mumbai has been grappling with severe weather conditions, resulting in the diversion of over 350 flights as heavy rains wreak havoc across the city. The incessant downpour has led to operational challenges for airlines, with reports indicating that some flights had to be redirected due to adverse weather. Amid these disruptions, tragic incidents unfolded during the Dahi Handi celebrations, a festival marking the birthday of Lord Krishna, which saw at least nine individuals injured, including a five-year-old child, in Thane.

On the festive front, Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis attended the Dahi Handi ceremony organized by former BJP MP Kapil Patil, urging citizens to support Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s vision for development. Despite the torrential rains, the spirit of celebration remained intact, with vibrant scenes of participants forming human pyramids. Notably, a team in Thane assembled a remarkable 10-layer pyramid, claiming a world record, and was awarded a substantial prize of ₹25 lakh.

However, the festivities took a dark turn when a 32-year-old man tragically lost his life after falling from a window while attempting to tie the Dahi Handi rope in Mankhurd. This incident highlights the inherent risks associated with the traditional sport, which has already seen injuries reported among participants. Overall, approximately 75 people were injured during the celebrations across various locations in Mumbai, with two individuals in critical condition.

The rainfall has caused extensive damage beyond the festivities. In Borgadi village, four cattle drowned, while several houses were inundated as floodwaters rose. In Nanded district, three fatalities have been linked to rain-related incidents as villages remain cut off due to flooding. The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a red alert, forecasting heavy rains to persist through Sunday, with warnings of intense weather patterns affecting multiple districts, including Mumbai City and its suburbs.

As commuting becomes increasingly challenging, the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) has urged residents to refrain from unnecessary travel. Local train services have been severely disrupted due to water accumulation on tracks, particularly affecting the Central and Western Railway lines. Bus services also faced challenges, with diversions implemented for routes in heavily waterlogged areas.

The situation remains dire as emergency teams remain on high alert to mitigate the effects of the floods, with pumping operations underway across various locations. As communities face the brunt of these severe weather conditions, residents express frustration over insufficient governmental response, calling for immediate attention to address the flooding and infrastructure challenges.

As Mumbai navigates through this storm, the city’s resilience is tested. Authorities are urging citizens to stay vigilant, heed weather advisories, and prioritize safety as they contend with ongoing challenges brought on by relentless rains.
