Tragic Arrest of Tripura Woman Linked to Infant’s Death and Elopement Plot
A woman has been arrested in Tripura for allegedly murdering her five-month-old child in the Sepahijala district, as confirmed by officials on August 11. The authorities report that the suspect, 28-year-old Suchitra Debbarma, is believed to have killed her infant to facilitate her plan to elope with a man she had been involved with for the past year.
The police were alerted to the situation after neighbors reported concerns regarding Suchitra. A team led by Officer-in-Charge Tapas Das of the Sonamura police station visited her residence in Rampadapara on Sunday. Upon arrival, they discovered the baby lying on a bed without any sign of the mother. The child was immediately transported to the Sonamura sub-divisional hospital, where medical personnel pronounced the infant dead. A post-mortem examination is scheduled to take place shortly.
Officer Das later confirmed that Suchitra was apprehended in the village. Preliminary investigations suggest that she may have strangled her child while her husband, Amit Debbarma, was away working at a rubber plantation. During questioning, Suchitra allegedly confessed to her intent to kill the baby, claiming it was part of her plan to leave with another man with whom she was having an extramarital affair.
