Security forces have arrested an active member of the banned insurgent group Pambei-led United National Liberation Front (UNLF-P) along with four individuals linked to the proscribed Kangleipak Communist Party (KCP) during recent operations in Imphal. The arrests, which occurred over the past 36 hours, followed meticulous searches at identified vulnerable locations.

The UNLF-P operative, identified as Thoudam Bobby Singh, also known as Maikeingakpa, 50, was taken into custody at his home in Toubul Mayai Leikai, Bishnupur district. It is noteworthy that the UNLF-P is currently under a ceasefire agreement with both central and state governments. Following Singh’s arrest, law enforcement officials recovered a significant cache of weaponry, including a .303 rifle with its magazine, five additional rifle magazines, a No. 36 hand grenade, 501 live rounds of ammunition of varying calibres, two .303 ammunition chargers, a black gun case, and a mobile phone with a SIM card.

In a separate operation, security forces detained Ningombam Nongyai Meetei, known as Khingba, a 20-year-old cadre of the KCP (Ibungo Ngangom group), at his residence in Taothong Khunou, Imphal West district. Acting on information from Meetei, officials arrested another KCP member, 21-year-old Mathurabasimayum Arnold Sharma, at his home in Sagolband Tera Moirang Hanuba Leirak.

Another KCP member, Hodam Bikram Singh, aged 37 and also known as Punsiba or Tomthin, was apprehended in the Khabeisoi Ishirou area of Heingang, Imphal East district, where authorities seized his Aadhaar card. The final operation led to the arrest of Thongam Prakash Meitei, 25, also affiliated with the KCP (City Meitei), from his home in Langjing Awang Leikai, Imphal West district. These coordinated efforts underline the ongoing challenges posed by insurgent groups in the region and the commitment of security forces to address these threats.
