Gaurav Gogoi Condemns Assam Government’s Shocking Intelligence Failure After Explosive I-Day ULFA Bomb Plot Exposed
Congress MP Criticizes Assam Government Following Bomb Scares on Independence Day
Guwahati, August 15, 2024 – Congress MP Gaurav Gogoi has sharply criticized the Assam government after the banned militant group ULFA (I) planted bombs at multiple locations on Independence Day. Gogoi attributed the incident to a failure of police intelligence and a repeated lapse in leadership by Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma.
In a statement, Gogoi described the event as an unprecedented security failure reminiscent of earlier, more turbulent times in Assam. He accused the BJP-led administration of reversing the progress made in the state.
"The ability of the banned ULFA to plant bombs at multiple locations within Assam on 15 August reflects the absolute failure of police intelligence. The Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma has repeatedly failed the people of Assam. Today’s lapse is unprecedented and reminds us of the past," Gogoi wrote on X (formerly Twitter).
Adding to the criticism, Assam Congress President Bhupen Kumar Borah also condemned the state government. Borah highlighted the inadequacies of the BJP in maintaining security and development, pointing to the recent bomb threats as evidence.
"Assam’s descent into chaos is appalling! Despite overwhelming support, the BJP-led government has failed to deliver. CM @HimantaBiswa’s obsession with ‘jihad’ rhetoric has distracted from pressing issues, compromising security and development," Borah said.
Following these incidents, the opposition has demanded the resignation of Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma. The calls come in light of the seizure of ‘bomb-like substances’ from at least eight locations across the state, after ULFA (I) claimed responsibility for planting 24 bombs.
The escalating situation has drawn widespread concern over the state’s security apparatus and the government’s ability to handle such threats. The political fallout continues as leaders and citizens question the effectiveness of current administrative measures.
