Mid-Air Incident: Man Slapped Amid Panic on IndiGo Flight Returned Home
IndiGo Airlines has taken action against a passenger who assaulted a fellow traveler on a flight from Mumbai to Kolkata. The 39-year-old man from Cachar, initially reported missing after the incident, is now believed to be on a train heading back home. IndiGo announced that the individual is barred from all flights for 30 days while an investigation is conducted, highlighting their commitment to addressing unruly behavior onboard. The airline stated that the case has been formally reported to the relevant authorities.
Other airlines in India can decide whether to include the man on their no-fly lists until the legal process of adding him to the national no-fly list is resolved. Police in Cachar are actively working to establish contact with the victim, who is thought to have traveled to Silchar, and are collaborating with their Kolkata counterparts to track him down. The victim’s family confirmed that they had contacted him at Barpeta station in Assam, where he was returning from Kolkata after working at a gym in Mumbai.
The incident gained significant attention after a video surfaced showing the victim being slapped during a panic attack as the plane was taxiing. Reports indicate that he began to sob and walk down the aisle, asking to disembark when a co-passenger slapped him. The actions of the airline crew and passengers were commendable, as they promptly supported the victim.
In Kolkata, the Bidhannagar police confirmed via social media that they received a complaint from IndiGo regarding a heated confrontation between two male passengers aboard flight 6E-138. The altercation resulted in one passenger, Hafijul Rahaman, slapping the other, Hossain Ahmed Majumder. The cabin crew deemed Rahaman unruly and handed him over to the police, initiating legal proceedings against him.
