Supriya Sule Condemns CM’s Scheme for Women: Relationships Can’t Be Bought
NCP’s Supriya Sule Criticizes Maharashtra Government’s Mukhyamantri Ladki Bahin Yojana
MUMBAI: Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) working president Supriya Sule has openly criticized the Maharashtra government over its recently introduced Mukhyamantri Ladki Bahin Yojana. Addressing a press conference, Sule suggested that the ruling coalition, represented by Eknath Shinde’s government, appears to believe both relationships and elections can be secured with financial incentives. The scheme, put forth by Deputy Chief Minister Ajit Pawar in last month’s State budget, offers ₹1,500 in financial aid to women with an annual family income of less than ₹2.5 lakh. With assembly elections on the horizon, this initiative has been heavily promoted.
Sule, while acknowledging the financial aid scheme as a beneficial step, underscored the distinction between relationships and transactions. "The ruling alliance seems to think that both relationships and elections can be bought," she remarked, stressing that genuine relationships and love differ vastly from mere financial transactions. She claimed the scheme was a direct response to the ruling alliance’s poor performance in the recent Lok Sabha elections.
The Baramati MP also took the opportunity to highlight the surge in crimes across Maharashtra since the Shinde government assumed office in June 2022, noting a significant increase in criminal activities over the past 18–24 months. Additionally, when questioned about the use of the colour pink in her estranged cousin Ajit Pawar’s ‘Jan Sanman Yatra,’ she emphasized that her focus remains on sincere politics rather than public relations tactics, referring to her electoral victory over Ajit Pawar’s wife, Sunetra, in the Lok Sabha polls.
In a pointed statement, Sule concluded, “You can’t be both Manmohan Singh and Ratan Tata,” suggesting a need for consistent and genuine political and economic leadership.
