Operation Sindoor Debate: Opposition Raises Alarming Security Lapses and Questions Pakistani Terror Links

Parliament is poised for an intense debate on Monday over Operation Sindoor and the recent terror attack in Pahalgam, Kashmir. Defence Minister Rajnath Singh is set to address the Lok Sabha around noon, while Congress leader Gaurav Gogoi is expected to spearhead the discussion from the Opposition’s perspective. In anticipation of the session, Gogoi stated, “The government will have to tell the truth, today.”

The debate gains momentum following remarks by Congress leader P Chidambaram, who questioned the government’s transparency regarding its military response to the April 22 terror attack in Pahalgam, which resulted in the deaths of 26 civilians. In a recent interview, Chidambaram cast doubt on the government’s claims that the attackers originated from Pakistan, urging officials to disclose any follow-up measures to prevent future incidents. “Where are the terrorist attackers? Why have you not apprehended them? Why have you not even identified them?” he inquired, emphasizing the government’s reluctance to disclose recent investigative actions by the National Investigation Agency (NIA).

Chidambaram’s comments ignited controversy, especially as BJP’s IT cell head, Amit Malviya, accused the Congress party of attempting to absolve Pakistan of responsibility for the terror attack. In a rebuttal, Chidambaram’s son, Karti, urged critics to watch the full 40-minute interview to grasp the context of his father’s comments.

Shiv Sena (UBT) MP Sanjay Raut supported Chidambaram’s claims, expressing outrage over the perceived security lapses that allowed attackers to infiltrate 400 kilometers into Jammu and Kashmir without detection. Raut suggested that Home Minister Amit Shah should resign over what he termed a significant failure of the Home Ministry.

Meanwhile, Samajwadi Party MP Akhilesh Yadav chimed in, recognizing the bravery of the Armed Forces during Operation Sindoor but questioning the frequency of terrorist activities under the current BJP administration. “The question is – why are terrorist incidents happening again and again under the BJP government?” he stated, pressing the government for more accountability regarding the Pahalgam attackers’ whereabouts.

As the debate unfolds, the Lok Sabha’s agenda clearly prioritizes a “Special Discussion on India’s strong, successful and decisive ‘Operation Sindoor’ in response to terrorist attacks in Pahalgam.” This operation underscored India’s military strategy following the April attack, which targeted terrorist infrastructure in Pakistan and Pakistan-occupied Kashmir (PoK).

With key leaders from both sides preparing to clash over this significant issue, the Parliament session promises to be a focal point of national discourse around security, accountability, and geopolitical challenges facing India today. The outcome of this heated discussion could shape public perception of the government’s effectiveness in handling such critical matters of national security.
