Revolutionizing Defense: Army’s High-Altitude AI and Drone Test in Sikkim
The Indian Army has successfully wrapped up a significant field exercise in East Sikkim, designed to enhance capabilities in real-time surveillance, artificial intelligence, and rapid response for high-altitude warfare. The drill, named Exercise DIVYA DRISHTI, took place in July 2025 and aimed to evaluate the effectiveness of emerging technologies suitable for contemporary battlefield scenarios.
Troops from the Trishakti Corps navigated challenging terrains, integrating advanced ground systems with aerial platforms, including unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs) and drones, to emulate combat conditions. The exercise’s main goal was to assess the efficiency of real-time data collection, secure communication, and swift decision-making processes during operations.
One of the standout innovations featured was the use of AI-powered sensors, which were linked through a secure communications network. This advanced technology allowed for rapid transmission of battlefield intelligence from remote locations to command centers, significantly boosting situational awareness and enabling informed, quick responses.
Lieutenant General Rakesh Kapoor, the Deputy Chief of Army Staff, observed the exercise on behalf of Army Headquarters and assessed the systems being tested.
“Exercise DIVYA DRISHTI has been a great success. We tested cutting-edge technologies in realistic field conditions. The lessons will help develop future technologies, doctrines, and tactics across the Indian Army, making us ready for any adversary and any terrain,” remarked Lieutenant General Zubin A Minwalla, General Officer Commanding of the Trishakti Corps.
