The Saaral Thiruvizha kicked off this Sunday in Courtallam, Tenkasi district, with an inauguration led by Revenue Minister K.K.S.S.R. Ramachandran. The minister formally launched the annual “Saaral Vizha 2025,” marking the start of this vibrant festival that embraces the arrival of the southwest monsoon, known locally as the saaral season.
A highlight of the inaugural festivities was a four-day flower exhibition organized by the Horticulture Department, taking place at the Eco Park in Courtallam. The Saaral festival promises a rich array of cultural competitions and performances, set to unfold at the Kalaivanar Auditorium until July 27. The minister emphasized that the government is orchestrating these events with meticulous planning. “We are ensuring public events, welfare activities, and the delivery of welfare schemes are executed seamlessly,” he stated.
The opening day featured stunning performances by local school students and artists, showcasing traditional Bharathanatyam, folk arts, and the soulful melodies of Nagaswaram. Ramachandran also recognized the talents of young participants by awarding cash prizes to winners of the chubby kids competition.
Looking ahead, the second day of the festival will highlight yoga competitions and multicultural programs for students at the Kalaivanar Auditorium. The evening promises to be equally entertaining, with folk dramas, silambam demonstrations, and various other performances lined up. Among those present at the opening were Tenkasi District Collector A.K. Kamal Kishore, Superintendent of Police S. Aravind, and several other officials, embodying the local support for this significant annual event.
The Saaral Thiruvizha not only celebrates cultural heritage but also strengthens community bonds, making it a must-visit for both locals and tourists seeking an authentic experience during the monsoon season. As the festival unfolds over the next week, it presents a unique opportunity to participate in the vibrant cultural landscape of Tenkasi district.
Overall, the Saaral festival remains a testament to the rich cultural tapestry of the region, offering a platform for showcasing local arts, fostering community involvement, and enhancing the festive spirit among participants and visitors alike.
