Urgent Appeal: Association Demands Immediate Ban on Smartphones in Schools for Child Safety
The Recognised Unaided Private Schools’ Association (RUPSA) has urged the Department of School Education and Literacy (DSEL) to impose a ban on smart watches within school campuses, akin to the existing prohibition of mobile phones. Addressing the media on Tuesday, RUPSA President Halanur Lepakshi highlighted the growing misuse of smart watches by students, who use these devices to take photos, play games, and watch videos during class, leading to significant distractions.
“Just as mobile phones are not permitted on school grounds, smart watches should also be banned to prevent disruptions in the educational environment,” Lepakshi emphasized. RUPSA plans to submit an official memorandum to the department to advocate for this ban.
In addition to the call for a smart watch ban, Lepakshi urged the DSEL to crack down on illegal tuition centers operating in North Karnataka. He alleged that some government school headmasters are collaborating with these unauthorized establishments, further complicating the issue.
RUPSA’s appeal underscores the need for stringent measures to maintain focus and integrity within educational institutions and to address broader concerns regarding illicit tutoring practices.
