US Experts Mobilize for Critical ONGC Leak Control in Assam’s Sivasagar
GUWAHATI: The Oil and Natural Gas Corporation (ONGC) is set to implement a new strategy designed to control the ongoing gas leak in Sivasagar. This revised approach, deemed more practical and safer, comes after extensive containment efforts since the leak began. The incident originated on June 12 during routine maintenance at Well No. RDS-147, situated in the Rudrasagar Field.
According to ONGC, almost 50 percent of the preliminary work, including site preparation and equipment mobilization, has already been completed. Full implementation of the revised operation is scheduled to begin tomorrow.
A team of specialists from the United States is expected to arrive at the site later today to provide technical expertise and on-ground support.
Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma shared an update on social media, stating, “After exploring multiple approaches with great effort and precision, ONGC is now advancing with a more practical and safer strategy to cap the leak. Nearly 50% of the groundwork has already been completed. A team of experts from the United States is reaching the site this evening to provide additional insights and support. Full-scale operations under the new plan are set to begin tomorrow. The Government of India and the Government of Assam are monitoring the situation continuously and remain fully committed to ensuring safety, restoring normalcy, and resolving the issue as soon as possible.”
