Shocking Discovery: 7 Arrested After Cow Skulls Found in Lakhimpur, Assam
Seven individuals have been arrested in connection with the recovery of three cow skulls near a Namghar (prayer hall) in Assam’s Lakhimpur district, as confirmed by Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma on Wednesday.
In a prompt action, Lakhimpur Police apprehended these suspects after discovering the skulls roughly 30 meters from Siring Chuk Namghar, situated along the roadside. The arrested individuals include Monsur Ali, Md. Rejjak Ali, Saha Ali, Diluar Hussain, Dildar Hussain, Abu Kalam Ali, and Jahidul Islam. Moreover, during a search of Monsur Ali’s home, three additional cattle skulls were retrieved and confiscated. The investigation remains ongoing, with technical analysis currently in progress.
This incident follows the issuance of shoot-at-sight orders during nighttime hours in Dhubri district, sparked by the discovery of a cow’s head in front of a Hanuman temple shortly after the Bakrid festival. The next day saw another skull found at the same location, leading to further unrest, including incidents of stone pelting.
On June 8, Sarma noted that several cattle were allegedly slaughtered illegally at various locations during the Bakrid festivities, with remains discarded at multiple sites across Assam. To date, more than 60 arrests have been made in this context, over 50 of which occurred in Dhubri alone, all related to illegal cow slaughter aimed at inciting communal tension in the state.
