Shocking Police Sweep: 36 ‘Illegal’ Bangladeshi Nationals Detained as Deportation Process Begins

The Delhi Police recently detained 36 Bangladeshi nationals residing illegally in Bharat Nagar, South Delhi, a move underscoring ongoing concerns about illegal immigration. The operation took place on June 13, with authorities confirming that the group, which includes 19 adults and 17 children, lived without valid documents, visas, or permits, violating India’s Foreigners Act of 1946.

A senior police official revealed that during interrogations, one detainee admitted to entering India from Bangladesh overland, helping authorities identify the remainder of the group living unlawfully in the area. DCP (North West) Bhisham Singh reported that the police recovered 13 identity cards belonging to the detainees and seven mobile phones containing the banned IMO app, commonly used for cross-border communication.

The individuals were reportedly residing in makeshift shelters that typically do not require official documentation. Investigations revealed that many had previously worked in a brick kiln in Mewat, Haryana, before fleeing the region due to impending police action. They then sought temporary refuge on Delhi’s footpaths, frequently relocating to evade detection.

The police have since initiated the deportation process for the detained group, emphasizing their commitment to addressing illegal immigration and maintaining security. This incident sheds light on the challenges authorities face in managing the complexities of immigration, as individuals seek better opportunities while navigating the risks associated with undocumented status.

As this story develops, it highlights the delicate balance between enforcing immigration laws and addressing the humanitarian aspects of those involved. The ongoing situation in South Delhi reflects broader issues regarding migration patterns in India and the need for comprehensive policies that consider both security and human rights.
