
Assam Reshuffle: Ravi Kota Emphasizes Core Roles as Barah Joins Tourism
The Assam government has conducted an administrative reshuffle intended to improve public service delivery by transferring and reassigning several key IAS and IPS officers to new roles across various departments. Chief Secretary Ravi Kota has been released from his additional responsibilities in the Industries, Commerce & Public Enterprises Department, enabling him to concentrate on his main duties.
Diganta Barah, who previously served as Inspector General of Police (SB) and Director of the Lachit Barphukan Police Academy in Dergaon, has been appointed as Commissioner and Secretary in the Tourism Department. He will also take on additional responsibilities in the Home & Political Department, which includes oversight of Forensics, Jails, and Home Guards.
Dr. B. Kalyan Chakravarthy, the Additional Chief Secretary for Labour Welfare, Skill Development, Employment & Entrepreneurship, Cultural Affairs, and Transformation & Development, has been reassigned to serve as the Additional Chief Secretary for Panchayat & Rural Development. He retains his roles in Cultural Affairs and Skill Development, as well as chairing the State Level Recruitment Commission for Class-IV Posts.
Dr. John Berchmans Ekka, formerly the Additional Chief Secretary for Panchayat & Rural Development, Tea Tribes & Adivasi Welfare, and Tourism, has been reassigned to oversee the Industries, Commerce & Public Enterprises departments, while also managing Labour Welfare and Tea Tribes & Adivasi Welfare as additional responsibilities.
Dilip Kumar Borah, currently serving as Secretary for Finance, Handloom, Textile, and Sericulture Departments, and Managing Director of the Assam Silk Outreach Mission, has also been given the role of Secretary for the Transformation & Development Department.
These appointments are designed to enhance public service initiatives and reflect the Assam government’s commitment to streamlining governance and ensuring efficient service delivery across various departments.
