Microsoft CEO Satya Nadella has addressed the recent layoffs of 6,000 employees, clarifying that the decisions were not driven by performance issues but were part of a broader organizational restructuring. He emphasized that the layoffs are aimed at accelerating Microsoft’s commitment to an artificial intelligence (AI)-first strategy. Nadella reiterated that the company’s vision is pivoting towards AI transformation, with plans to reallocate resources and talent to areas that align with emerging business priorities.

In a related initiative, Microsoft has partnered with Yotta Data Services, a leading provider of cloud infrastructure in India, to foster AI adoption in the country. This collaboration seeks to engage various stakeholders, including government entities, academic institutions, startups, and enterprises, to enhance innovation in AI. Through this partnership, Microsoft intends to integrate its AzureAI services into Yotta’s Shakti Cloud platform, providing advanced AI capabilities to developers, enterprises, and public sector organizations across India.

Puneet Chandok, President of Microsoft India and South Asia, remarked that the partnership aims to unlock AI innovation at scale. He expressed pride in contributing to the realization of India’s AI ambitions through developments tailored to meet the nation’s unique needs. Earlier this year, Nadella had also announced a collaboration with IndiaAI, part of the Digital India Corporation, to promote AI and related technologies in the country, launching an AI Centre of Excellence and AI Productivity Labs to ensure inclusive growth.

With these initiatives, Microsoft aims to not only reshape its workforce but also enhance AI capabilities in India, reflecting its strategic priorities in the evolving technological landscape.
