BJP leader Hemang Joshi has praised Indonesia’s inclusive governance and firm stance against extremism during a diplomatic visit to Southeast and East Asia. On the third day of the delegation’s stay in Jakarta, Joshi highlighted the enthusiastic reception from various high-ranking government officials and ministers. “We have engaged in meaningful discussions and gained valuable insights into their perspectives,” he stated.
Joshi further expressed his belief that Indonesia could serve as an exemplary model for other Islamic nations in governance and civil society. He emphasized that Indonesia stands firmly against terrorism, asserting, “Terrorism, murder, or violence have no place in Islam.”
Supporting this message, KH Ulil Abshar Abdalla, Chairman of the Nahdlatul Ulama Executive Board, underscored the strengthening strategic and cultural ties between India and Indonesia. During discussions with the visiting Indian parliamentary delegation, Abdalla remarked on the shared challenge of combating terrorism and the importance of peace. “Both countries desire economic development, political stability, and harmony,” he said.
Abdalla cautioned about the dangers of exploiting religion to justify violence. He noted, “Certain groups in Islam promote violence in its name, which is misguided, as Islam is fundamentally a religion of peace. The greatest victims of terrorism are Muslims themselves, not other religious groups. Thus, developing understanding among various faiths is crucial for achieving peace and stability in South and Southeast Asia.”
He also highlighted the historical ties between Indonesia and India, stating, “The deepest layers of Indonesian history are shaped by Indian civilization. Therefore, collaboration on a people-to-people basis is essential.”
This visit exemplifies ongoing efforts by India and Indonesia to forge stronger bonds in the face of mutual challenges, particularly in fostering peace and countering extremism.
