Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta has confirmed the first COVID-19-related death in the capital amid a recent surge in cases. A 60-year-old woman, whose passing was reported on May 31, 2025, had tested positive for the virus; however, it was noted that her COVID-19 diagnosis was incidental to her primary condition of acute intestinal obstruction following a laparotomy.

As of the latest update, Delhi is managing 294 active COVID-19 cases, prompting health officials to monitor the situation closely. In a statement made on May 29, 2025, Chief Minister Gupta reassured the public, indicating that currently, 19 patients are hospitalized for COVID-19 treatment. She emphasized that there is no cause for alarm, stating the government remains vigilant and well-prepared to respond to any developments.

The capital’s healthcare facilities are equipped and ready to address the needs arising from the ongoing pandemic. Gupta’s remarks reflect a commitment to ensuring that residents feel supported during this time. The government is continuously updating its protocols and resources to safeguard public health.

As the situation evolves, residents are encouraged to stay informed about health guidelines and to report any symptoms to healthcare professionals. Public health officials are urging the importance of vaccinations and other preventative measures to mitigate the spread of COVID-19.

With vigilance and readiness, Delhi aims to navigate this challenging period effectively, as officials work diligently to protect the community against further outbreaks.
