Chamling Calls on PM: Urgent Action Needed for Sikkim’s Pending Demands
Former Chief Minister Pawan Chamling of Sikkim has urged Prime Minister Narendra Modi to address the longstanding demands of the state during his visit scheduled for Thursday. Chamling, the president of the Sikkim Democratic Front (SDF), emphasized the need to uphold the constitutional guarantees provided to Sikkim during its merger with India.
In a memorandum released by the SDF, Chamling articulated that safeguarding these guarantees is essential for the people of Sikkim to fully participate in the national mainstream with pride and dignity. He highlighted five key issues that require immediate attention from the Prime Minister.
The demands include the reservation of seats for the Limboo-Tamang communities in the Assembly, the granting of tribal status to certain communities in Sikkim, facilitating the visit of the 17th Gyalwa Karmapa Ogyen Trinley Dorje to Rumtek Monastery, the implementation of the Inner Line Permit in the state, and the protection of Article 371F, which provides constitutional safeguards for Sikkim.
On the occasion marking the 50th anniversary of Sikkim’s statehood, Chamling presented these vital requests once again, thanking the Prime Minister for his visit and ongoing support for the people of Sikkim.
