Exciting New Update: Google Photos Unveils Collections Feature to Transform Your Photo Experience!
NEW DELHI — Google Photos has introduced a new feature called Collections, aiming to simplify the discovery and management of photo and video content. This update will replace the current Library tab and serve as the central hub for all albums, both private and shared, offering a more organized approach. Content will be categorized into specific folders like People and Pets, documents, and places.
In alignment with this new structure, Google has also revamped the search tab within the app. The previous image tiles are now replaced with a list of suggested categories, including Screenshots, selfies, and menus, enhancing the search and discovery process.
This introduction of Collections is part of Google’s broader plans to enhance Google Photos with AI-driven features. Later this year, the app will debut an AI-powered assistant named Ask Photos, powered by Google’s Gemini AI. This assistant is expected to streamline user experience further by offering smart photo management and discovery options.
The rollout of the Collections feature is currently underway and will be available to all Google Photos users on both Android and iOS platforms, although the update may take several weeks to reach all devices. Once available, users can navigate to the new Collections tab, where they can switch between different views like “All,” “Shared with me,” and “My albums.” Favorites and Trash folders will now be prominently displayed at the top. Two additional tiles will dynamically update based on user navigation habits, and Locked Folders will no longer be suggested at the top, providing a more personalized experience.
As part of this update, the Utilities folder will be removed, with its tools relocated to new access points within the app. For instance, users can now create a Locked Folder at the bottom of the Collections tab, and import images or create albums, collages, and highlight videos via the “+” symbol. Features such as freeing up device space and managing photo frames have moved to the user’s Google Photos account profile.
Overall, this update significantly enhances user interaction with Google Photos, making the app more intuitive and user-friendly.
