Urgent Heavy Rainfall Warning: Mumbai & Pune on Orange Alert, 4 Districts Facing Red Alert – Stay Safe and Prepared!

The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a heavy rainfall warning for Mumbai and an orange alert for Pune over the next 24 hours as the city welcomes an early onset of the monsoon. This year, the monsoon arrived nearly two weeks ahead of schedule, marking one of the earliest starts in recent memory. Additionally, the IMD has placed four districts in Maharashtra-Satara, Ratnagiri, Sindhudurg, and Kolhapur-under a red alert due to forecasts of intense rainfall.

In the financial hub of Mumbai, residents should brace for cloudy skies and substantial rainfall, with temperatures expected to range from 24°C to 31°C. The IMD’s monsoon forecast reveals that all four meteorological regions in Maharashtra-Konkan & Goa, Central Maharashtra, Marathwada, and Vidarbha-are projected to receive above-normal rainfall from June to September, promising a wetter monsoon season ahead.

Specifically, Central Maharashtra and Marathwada are likely to see rainfall levels reaching 110% and 112% of the normal averages, respectively, while Vidarbha is forecasted to experience 109% and the Konkan & Goa region at 107%. Overall, residents in Maharashtra can expect a more saturated monsoon than usual, vital for the rain-fed agricultural sector.

The forecast also suggests that June will bring above-normal rainfall across Maharashtra, although certain areas in Konkan, Marathwada, and Vidarbha may receive precipitation amounts closer to seasonal averages. The implications of this wetter monsoon season are significant for agriculture, affecting crop yields and irrigation schedules.

In Pune, the five-day weather forecast expects generally overcast conditions with persistent rainfall. From May 29 to June 2, temperatures will likely hover between 22°C and 30°C, with moderate rain anticipated on May 29, followed by lighter showers on May 30 and 31. Rainfall intensity is expected to increase slightly on June 1 and 2, maintaining a damp environment in the region.

As the monsoon progresses, residents are advised to stay informed about weather updates and take necessary precautions, especially in flood-prone areas. The early onset of the monsoon could bring benefits to agriculture, but the potential for hazardous conditions also remains high. Stay tuned for more updates as the situation evolves.
