Hyderabad, May 25 — A tragic incident occurred on Sunday when a head constable was killed and three other police officers were injured after a truck crashed into their patrol vehicle near Shamshabad, located in the Rangareddy district on the outskirts of Hyderabad. The accident happened as the officers from the Shamshabad Police Station, part of the Cyberabad Commissionerate, were conducting a routine vehicle check on the Hyderabad-Bangalore highway. Head constable Vijay Kumar died at the scene, while the three injured constables were rushed to a local hospital, with one reported to be in critical condition. Authorities believe the accident was caused by the truck driver’s reckless and negligent driving, leading to the driver’s arrest by police. Following this incident, the Shamshabad Police launched an investigation to gather further details.
In a related development, just the day before, Cyberabad Police held a meeting aimed at enhancing traffic regulations, enforcement strategies, and measures to prevent accidents throughout the Cyberabad Commissionerate. The meeting was attended by Joint Commissioner of Police (Traffic) Gajarao Bhupal, along with other traffic officials. They emphasized the necessity for regular review meetings with both traffic divisions to ensure ongoing assessment and improvements aimed at maintaining smooth traffic flow.
During the gathering, officials analyzed accident data from January to April, identifying accident-prone areas like the Outer Ring Road (ORR) as critical zones that require immediate attention. They called for the installation of appropriate signage and safety measures in these areas to help reduce the likelihood of fatalities. The meeting also highlighted an increase in pedestrian-related accidents, prompting discussions on enhancing pedestrian crossings and installing barricades where necessary to improve safety.
In a separate incident in Jubilee Hills, an upscale area of Hyderabad, a car sped out of control and collided with a divider on Road Number 45. The young driver managed to escape unharmed, thanks to the car’s airbag, but fled the scene, leaving the vehicle behind. Authorities suspect that the individual may have been under the influence of alcohol at the time of the incident. The Jubilee Hills Police have since registered a case and initiated an investigation into the matter.
