ASDMA Urges Immediate Setup of Safe Shelters in Landslide-Prone Areas
The Assam State Disaster Management Authority (ASDMA) has issued a directive for authorities in landslide-prone districts to identify safe shelters and relief camps to relocate residents living in vulnerable areas ahead of the rainy season. This decision comes as the monsoon approaches, and ASDMA has emphasized the importance of ensuring safety for those in at-risk zones.
In a statement released on Thursday, ASDMA urged residents in areas susceptible to landslides to consider moving to safer locations during the rains. The agency has instructed all landslide-prone districts to proactively identify safe shelters for their communities.
ASDMA has particularly highlighted the need for district officials to facilitate the relocation of vulnerable populations to designated shelters. This initiative aims to minimize the risk of casualties associated with potential landslides, which have affected these regions significantly in recent years. Gyanendra Dev Tripathi, CEO of ASDMA, has appealed to residents in these high-risk areas to seek safer accommodations during the monsoon season.
The directive specifically addresses the most affected districts, including Cachar, Dima Hasao, Hailakandi, Kamrup, Kamrup Metropolitan, Karbi Anglong, Sribhumi, and West Karbi Anglong. ASDMA has called for immediate identification of these landslide-prone areas and the notification of safe shelters, ensuring that those at risk can swiftly transition to relief camps if necessary.
