Nearly seven in ten young professionals (67 percent) in India are eager for new job opportunities but lack clarity on the specific job titles or industries to pursue, as revealed by recent research from LinkedIn. The study, which surveyed 2,001 employed and unemployed individuals aged 18-78, found that 65 percent of these professionals can articulate their career goals to a friend. However, many struggle to effectively search for roles. A significant 64 percent reported finding job filters confusing, while 74 percent expressed a desire to discover relevant roles they had not previously considered.
The evolving nature of job titles, alongside a growing emphasis on skills in hiring decisions, has created a heightened demand for job seekers to find opportunities that align with their skills and aspirations rather than relying solely on predetermined titles or keywords. The research highlights that many Indians view professional advancement as a process of learning new skills and taking confident steps toward roles that genuinely suit them. Despite this strong desire for purposeful growth, the quest for the right job remains a challenge.
In response, LinkedIn is introducing a new AI-powered job search experience for its Premium Subscribers aimed at streamlining the job search process. This innovative tool leverages generative AI to better understand a job seeker’s intentions, skills, and goals, even if they are unsure about the exact job title or keyword. This allows users to identify opportunities expressed in their own terminology.
Nirajita Banerjee, Senior Managing Editor and LinkedIn career expert, emphasizes the importance of strategic application submissions and embracing AI applications for young professionals wishing to stand out. She advises that while adapting to new technologies is vital, maintaining a human touch is equally essential.
