Tripura LoP’s Bold Response to Pradyot Kishore’s CPI(M) Remarks
Two days after Pradyot Kishore, founder of Tipra Motha, stated that he maintains good relations with both the Congress and the BJP but not with the CPI(M), Jitendra Chaudhury, the Leader of Opposition in Tripura, criticized the tribal party for aligning with the BJP-led government after previously serving as the main opposition party. Chaudhury expressed his satisfaction with Kishore’s comments, stating, “I am not unhappy with his statement. I am grateful to him that he spoke the right thing. The CPI(M) is different. We never surrender to power or any other vested interest.”
The CPI(M) leader accused Kishore’s party of forming a “backdoor alliance” to assist the BJP in regaining power during the recent Assembly elections in 2023. In his attack on the BJP, Chaudhury claimed that the 125th Amendment Bill has been stalled in Parliament and lamented that the tribal population in Tripura has been relegated to second-class citizenship over the past 7.5 years. He criticized the Tripura Tribal Areas Autonomous District Council (TTAADC), stating that it has been reduced to a “beggar” and has failed to conduct village council elections.
Chaudhury also directed his ire at BJP MLA Sudhangshu Das for his controversial remarks regarding the recent Pahalgam terror attack, labeling him a “habitual offender.” Earlier in the week, Kishore visited the Congress Bhawan in Agartala to return party flags from his time as a member of the Congress, where he served as the state president in 2019 before founding Tipra Motha. When questioned about his visit to the Congress office, Kishore reiterated that he is “not on good terms with the CPI(M).”
Kishore has previously voiced concerns that the tribal communities were intentionally kept impoverished during the 25 years of Communist governance from 1993 to 2018, while asserting that former BJP Chief Minister Biplab Kumar Deb “really loves tribals.”
