Mizoram: Champhai District Seizes Heroin Valued at Rs 17.54 Crore
A joint operation on May 15 by the Assam Rifles and the Customs Preventive Force resulted in a significant drug seizure in Kelkang village, located in Champhai district. Officials confiscated 2.5 kg of Heroin No. 4, valued at approximately Rs 17.54 crore in the illegal market.
This operation stemmed from precise intelligence regarding narcotics movement in the region. In response, a coordinated area domination patrol was swiftly initiated. During this extensive search, security personnel uncovered 219 soap cases filled with high-grade heroin.
The confiscated drugs were formally handed over to the Customs Preventive Force in Champhai for further investigation and potential legal action. This region has been increasingly affected by drug trafficking, largely due to its porous international border. Security agencies are stepping up their efforts to dismantle the smuggling networks that have emerged in recent years.
