The 78th Cannes Film Festival marked a notable milestone for India’s film industry with the inauguration of the Bharat Pavilion, which took place on Thursday. This pavilion serves as a key platform for international collaboration, emphasizing India’s expanding role in the global cinematic landscape.

A significant highlight during the event was the launch of the India Film Guide, crafted to showcase India’s filmmaking capabilities, co-production opportunities, and its diverse shooting locations. This guide is anticipated to be an essential resource for attracting international partnerships and facilitating cross-border filmmaking initiatives.

Filmmaker Shekhar Kapur, who also leads the International Film Festival of India (IFFI), underscored India’s emergence as a creative powerhouse. He emphasized the role of cinema in enhancing global understanding. In a show of solidarity, French official Anne-Louise Mesadieu expressed France’s readiness to support collaborations between Indian and French filmmakers, promoting cultural exchanges.

Additionally, the festival saw the introduction of the IFFI 2025 poster and trailer. Gautam Bhanot from the National Film Development Corporation (NFDC) elaborated on the design, referring to it as a “convergence of creativity and technology” that illustrates India’s ambition to take a leading position in global content creation.

Anupam Kher, a veteran actor making his first appearance at Cannes, shared his reflections on India’s cinematic evolution, linking his personal journey to the country’s progress. “We have really, really done very well,” he remarked, highlighting the collective achievements of Indian cinema.

To enrich the launch ceremony, singer Astha Gill performed a rendition of “Saare Jahaan Se Achha,” reinforcing themes of cultural pride and artistic expression. This event not only showcases India’s cinematic talent but also sets the stage for future collaborations, placing India firmly on the global filmmaking map.
