Arunachal Minister Biyuram Wahge Inaugurates World Breastfeeding Week in Itanagar
Arunachal Pradesh’s Health & Family Welfare Minister, Biyuram Wahge, launched World Breastfeeding Week in Itanagar, focusing on the critical importance of breastfeeding and the pivotal role of ASHA workers in promoting it. The statewide event, held at the Banquet Hall, aimed to educate mothers on the benefits of exclusive breastfeeding and advocated for best practices.
Highlighting the event’s objective, Wahge emphasized the need to rationalize the distribution of healthcare staff in underserved areas, asserting the ministry’s commitment to serving the public. He underscored the essential role of ASHA workers in educating villagers about breastfeeding benefits and stressed the importance of ground-level awareness.
"Let’s support and advocate for the well-being of our mothers and children," Wahge said, concluding his remarks. He underscored the event’s purpose to raise awareness about the benefits of exclusive breastfeeding for both mother and child.
Key officials, including Hon’ble Advisor Dr. Mohesh Chai, Commissioner Health Krishna Kumar Singh, DC Papum Pare Jiken Bomjen, and MD NHM Marge Sora, attended the event. Dr. Chai noted that ASHA workers are the first point of contact for breastfeeding mothers, recommending exclusive breastfeeding for the first six months.
Dr. Kipa Tuglik, DMO, presented on the significance of breastfeeding, while Dr. Tana Natung, Nodal Officer of Child Health, spoke on breast milk’s essential role in child health. Dr. Usha Devi highlighted the contribution of ASHAs in the healthcare delivery system, and Dr. Krishan Welly praised breastfeeding mothers and ASHA workers for their dedication.
The event commenced with a song by the ASHAs of ICR and the lighting of the lamp by the dignitaries. Wahge later shared a social media post celebrating the event’s success.
This initiative, organized under the State/District Health Society, underscores the Arunachal government’s dedication to the health and well-being of mothers and children.
