Heartbreaking: Brave Soldiers Sacrificed – Kathua Terror Attack Claims Four Lives, Injures Six
Jammu, July 8 (IANS): Four army soldiers lost their lives and six others sustained injuries when terrorists ambushed an army convoy in Jammu & Kashmir’s Kathua district on Monday. The terrorists launched the attack by hurling a grenade and then opened automatic fire on vehicles patrolling the Machedi-Kindli-Malhar road around 3.30 pm, according to officials. The assault occurred near the village of Badnota, approximately 150 kilometers from Kathua town, rectifying earlier reports that suggested a distance of 52 kilometers.
Despite the security forces’ immediate retaliation, the terrorists managed to escape. Injured soldiers were rushed to a hospital where four of them succumbed to their critical injuries, while six others are currently receiving treatment. In response to the attack, a massive Cordon and Search Operation (CASO) has been initiated, with reinforcements dispatched to bolster security forces aiming to locate the assailants.
This incident marks the second significant terror-related event in Kathua district within the past month. On June 12-14, two terrorists and a CRPF jawan were killed in a gunfight during a search operation in the Hiranagar area. Furthermore, on June 9, a major terror attack targeted a pilgrim bus in Reasi district, resulting in nine deaths and injuries to 44 others. The attackers shot at the bus, causing it to crash into a gorge.
J&K’s Director General of Police, R.R. Swain, noted the presence of foreign terrorists in the hilly regions of Poonch, Rajouri, and neighboring districts, exploiting the terrain’s remoteness. Security forces have ramped up their operations, as evidenced by the recent encounters on July 6 and 7 in Kulgam district, where six terrorists and two army soldiers were killed.
Security agencies remain on high alert, vowing to intensify their efforts against terrorist activities in the region.
