Trinamool Cong Criticizes MDA Govt Over ‘CUET Centre Chaos’ Failures
Shillong, May 13: The Trinamool Congress (TMC) has sharply criticized the MDA government for the ongoing chaos surrounding the CUET-UG exam centers, labeling it a “manufactured mess” and a persistent failure. TMC leader Richard Marak expressed frustration that, for the third consecutive year, students from Meghalaya are compelled to travel to far-flung centers in Jorhat, Dibrugarh, Mizoram, Nagaland, and even Kolkata. He stated, “Students are suffering due to the state government’s ongoing inability to provide adequate CUET-UG exam centers within the state,” highlighting the significant burden this places on rural and impoverished families.
Marak condemned what he described as a predictable collapse, arguing that the government was well aware of the requirements: more certified centers with enough computer nodes. He criticized the Education Minister for only sending letters to the NTA after allocations were made, asserting, “That’s not leadership; it’s merely damage control.” Furthermore, he dismissed the Chief Minister’s appeal to the Union Education Minister as superficial optics, stating, “This government is responding to a fire it refused to put out. For three years, they’ve had the same homework and have failed each time.”
The recent decision by the Education Department to send 200 computer nodes for inspection was met with skepticism. Marak questioned, “Why now? Why not months ago? Why wait for students to suffer?” Advocating for a dedicated task force by June 2025, he emphasized that the solution hinges on effective planning, coordination, and genuine political will, rather than mere talk. “Our children’s future is not a stage for photo ops. This is not just a shortcoming; it’s a betrayal. Meghalaya deserves better than a government that only reacts after the damage is done.”
