Operation Sindoor: India’s Strategic Triumph in Countering Terrorism in Pakistan

New Delhi, May 9: In the aftermath of the Pahalgam massacre, India resolved to respond decisively to terrorism, leading to concerns from skeptics about potential diplomatic repercussions and fears of isolation due to heightened border tensions. Contrary to these apprehensions, India has effectively navigated the diplomatic landscape, positioning itself favorably in the ongoing narrative against terror. The military operations targeting terror infrastructure in Pakistan have received widespread international support, as nations across the globe affirm New Delhi’s right to safeguard its citizens and eradicate terrorism in the region.

From the United States to the European Union and several Arab nations, support for India’s airstrikes has been robust, with many urging Pakistan to refrain from escalating hostilities. This backing is rooted in India’s calculated and restrained approach to its military actions across the border. Following these strikes, Foreign Secretary Vikram Misri provided insight into the operations, emphasizing the measures taken to prevent collateral damage. Meanwhile, Pakistan responded by launching air assaults on Indian military sites for two consecutive nights, all of which were successfully deflected.

India’s resolve was clear; not only did it thwart every Pakistani attempt to escalate the conflict, but it also launched a diplomatic initiative to inform both allies and global entities about Pakistan’s aggressive behavior despite its ongoing support for terrorism. External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar engaged in discussions with US and EU counterparts shortly after a missile and drone attack from Pakistan, asserting that India would firmly respond to any escalation from the other side. This proactive engagement has resonated with the international community, reflected in the growing statements of support for India, with numerous countries endorsing its fight against terrorism.

UK Foreign Secretary David Lammy affirmed India’s position, stating the country had every right to be outraged. Former UK Prime Minister Rishi Sunak echoed this sentiment, asserting that no nation should tolerate cross-border terrorism. While Russia expressed concerns over military escalation, it condemned all forms of terrorism. Israel backed India’s right to self-defense, declaring that “terrorists have no sanctuary.” A collective statement from the European Union and its 27 member states illustrated unified support for India, with countries like France, the Netherlands, and Japan also echoing support for India’s actions.

US President Trump highlighted India’s sovereignty and right to counter terrorism, while Vice-President J.D. Vance called for de-escalation, emphasizing the situation as a regional issue. Several Islamic nations showed solidarity with India, although they refrained from explicitly denouncing Pakistan’s actions. Saudi Arabia expressed concern over the rising tensions and stressed the importance of avoiding civilian casualties. Meanwhile, the UAE and Qatar urged calm and reiterated their opposition to terrorism. Iran advocated for peace, stating that targeting civilians or employing terror tactics is unjustifiable. Bangladesh, notably, backed India’s right to self-defense.

The overarching message from the international community leans heavily in favor of India, with a general consensus that India acted with restraint and determination, effectively mitigating the potential for a broader conflict, while it is Pakistan that is viewed as the provocateur in the escalating tensions.
