Revitalizing Monsoon Brings Relief to Northeast: Guwahati Rejoices as Temperature Drops
Monsoon Brings Significant Rainfall and Relieves Northeast India from Summer Heat
Guwahati: After a period of intense heat, the northeast region of India welcomed another monsoon spell on Monday, bringing widespread rain. The India Meteorological Department (IMD) recorded 6 cm of rain in Guwahati within a short span of 4 to 5 hours, leading to waterlogging in major areas and routes. The IMD forecasts cloudy skies with potential rain or thunderstorms in Guwahati on Tuesday. Maximum and minimum temperatures are expected to be 32°C and 26°C, respectively.
Dibrugarh experienced the highest rainfall with 14 cm, followed by Shella with 12 cm, Longding with 11 cm, and Mawsynram, Dhemaji, and Huri each recording 7 cm. These areas span Assam, Meghalaya, and Arunachal Pradesh. Regional Meteorological Centre (RMC) head KN Mohan stated that rain would persist across most of the northeast for the next three days due to the monsoon spell, and a heavy rain alert has been issued for the next four days.
Following an extended period of high temperatures nearing 40°C, the recent rains have provided much-needed relief. Several weather stations reported decreased maximum temperatures. Notably, Silchar recorded the highest maximum temperature at 33.6°C on Monday, while Shillong experienced the lowest at 22.7°C. Guwahati recorded a maximum temperature of 33.2°C.
The RMC report from Monday warned of heavy to very heavy rain likely to occur at isolated spots over Assam and Meghalaya on Tuesday, with isolated heavy rainfall expected in Arunachal Pradesh and Mizoram. Overall, moderate rainfall is predicted in most places across Arunachal Pradesh, Assam, Meghalaya, Nagaland, Manipur, Mizoram, and Tripura over the next 24 hours.
The weather change is a reprieve from the prolonged heat, marking a return to cooler conditions. Residents are advised to stay alert for further weather updates and potential disruptions caused by the ongoing monsoon rains.
