Urgent Alert: PoK Residents Near LoC Advised to Stockpile Food Amid Rising Tensions
In an escalating climate of tension, the government of Pakistan-occupied Kashmir (PoK) has urged residents near the Line of Control (LoC) to prepare for a potential conflict with India. Following the recent Pahalgam incident, Prime Minister Chaudhry Anwar-ul-Haq announced during a legislative assembly session that residents living within 13 constituencies adjacent to the de-facto border should stockpile food and essential supplies for at least two months.
The Prime Minister emphasized that these measures are precautionary, aimed at safeguarding the lives of those living in these areas amid heightened fears of a military confrontation. To support these efforts, an emergency fund of approximately $3.5 million (one billion rupees) has been established to ensure the availability of necessities, including food and medical supplies.
In light of the escalating hostilities, which have included sustained exchanges of gunfire between Indian and Pakistani security forces along the LoC, the PoK government is also mobilizing resources to maintain road access in these border regions. Local journalist reports indicate that artillery fire has persisted for eight consecutive nights, further straining relations between the two nations.
Tensions soared after India accused Pakistan of involvement in the Pahalgam incident. Pakistan, however, has vehemently denied any wrongdoing, calling for an impartial investigation by an independent third party. As both countries engage in a series of retaliatory actions, significant developments have included India’s suspension of the Indus Waters Treaty (IWT) and Pakistan’s closure of its airspace.
Additionally, both nations have closed the Wagah-Attari border crossing, instructing all Pakistani nationals in India and Indian citizens in Pakistan to evacuate. While Islamabad asserts it will not initiate conflict, officials have warned that any aggressive moves by India will be met with a determined response.
Pakistan alleges that it possesses credible intelligence suggesting imminent military actions from India, which has prompted immediate measures from the PoK government, including the closure of over 1,000 religious seminaries for at least ten days.
The current situation underscores the fragile dynamics between India and Pakistan, with both sides taking steps that raise the stakes in an already volatile environment. As residents in PoK prepare for an uncertain future, the international community watches closely, hoping for a de-escalation of hostilities in the region.
