Yogi Advocates for Quality Education: Uniting Private Schools Under SIRF in Uttar Pradesh!
Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath announced on Friday that private educational institutions in Uttar Pradesh will now be included in the State Institutional Ranking Framework (SIRF) to establish uniform quality benchmarks. This directive came during a review meeting focused on the Technical Education and Vocational Education departments.
The Chief Minister emphasized the importance of quality evaluations, urging all technical institutions to actively engage with recognized accrediting bodies, including the National Assessment and Accreditation Council (NAAC), the National Board of Accreditation (NBA), and the National Institutional Ranking Framework (NIRF). He highlighted the necessity for institutions to prepare meticulously before applying for these accreditations to uphold standards of excellence.
Technical Education Minister Ashish Patel and Vocational Education Minister Kapil Dev Aggarwal participated in the meeting, during which key statistics were shared. It was reported that Dr. APJ Abdul Kalam Technical University in Lucknow is offering 1.64 lakh seats for the 2024-25 academic session. The university has revamped its curriculum to align with the National Education Policy, 2020, integrating MOOC-based learning, a choice-based credit system, and providing multiple entry and exit options alongside integrated programs.
In the 2023-24 academic year, the university successfully placed 12,739 students in various employment roles, with the highest annual salary package reaching an impressive ₹59.91 lakh. Adityanath instructed officials to expedite the recruitment process for vacant academic and non-academic positions to enhance educational quality and support.
The review also included updates on diploma-level technical education in the state. Currently, there are 2,139 polytechnic institutes operational, consisting of 147 government institutions, 19 aided, 1,948 privately funded entities, and 18 institutions operating under the public-private partnership (PPP) model. These institutes collectively have an intake capacity exceeding 2.68 lakh students, with over 1.15 lakh currently enrolled.
Additionally, the Department of Vocational Education and Skill Development disclosed that there are 324 government and 2,982 private Industrial Training Institutes (ITIs) operating within Uttar Pradesh. Notably, 212 government ITIs have been upgraded with modern laboratories and trained instructors in collaboration with Tata Technologies Limited. These institutions now provide a mix of long-term courses and short-term skill development programs.
Looking ahead to the 2024–25 academic year, approximately 1.25 lakh trainees have already secured apprenticeship and employment opportunities. Furthermore, over 30,000 students have applied under the PM Internship Scheme. The establishment of modern skill laboratories in at least 37 districts, funded through corporate social responsibility (CSR) contributions from various industrial units, is also noteworthy. Regular monthly placement drives have significantly impacted local employment, leading to the placement of over 2.67 lakh apprentices in the past five years under both the National Apprenticeship Promotion Scheme (NAPS) and the Chief Minister’s Apprenticeship Promotion Scheme (CMAPS).
The Chief Minister reiterated the critical alignment of technical and vocational education with industry needs, asserting that mandatory internships for students should accompany their academic training. This comprehensive approach aims to enhance job readiness and equip graduates with the skills necessary to thrive in the evolving job market.
