Lotteries in India are largely prohibited, with exceptions in 13 states, one of which is Nagaland. Since 1967, states including Assam, Mizoram, Kerala, Meghalaya, Manipur, Madhya Pradesh, Maharashtra, Goa, West Bengal, and Sikkim have permitted lottery games. Nagaland State Lotteries, established in 1972 under the Finance Department’s guidance, aim to provide a steady income source for the state government.
Nagaland State Lotteries are conducted thrice daily—morning, day, and evening—throughout the week. Each session features distinct lottery names and varying prize amounts, with a top prize of Rs 1 crore inclusive of the Super Prize. Tickets, priced at Rs 6 each, fall under the categories of Dear Morning, Dear Day, and Dear Evening.
The Director of Nagaland State Lotteries is responsible for organizing these lotteries, held daily at P. R. Hill Junction in Kohima. To claim a prize, winners must:
- Present an undamaged ticket along with a filled claim form.
- Attach a government-approved photo ID and passport-sized photographs to the claim form.
- Ensure the ticket is untampered and in its original condition.
Prizes up to Rs 10,000 can be paid directly by distributors, stockists, agents, or sellers. Claims exceeding Rs 10,000 must be submitted to the Director of Nagaland State Lotteries or the relevant state’s Nodal Office within 30 days of the draw. The original, duly signed winning ticket and all requisite documents must be provided, and payment will be processed within 60 days.
