Chief Minister Singh Addresses Plight of Displaced Persons and Tribal Concerns

Imphal: Chief Minister N. Biren Singh convened a significant meeting at the state secretariat today, focusing on the critical issues faced by internally displaced persons (IDPs) from Moreh. Accompanied by the Superintendent of Police, the District Commissioner, and other senior government officials, Singh aimed to tackle the urgent needs of this vulnerable population.

The discussions were centered on the myriad challenges encountered by the IDPs, who have been uprooted from their homes due to ongoing conflict and instability in the region. Ensuring their well-being and establishing effective support mechanisms were the primary objectives of this high-level meeting.

Earlier in the day, Chief Minister Singh also met with representatives from various tribal communities. These representatives expressed grave concerns over attempts by major tribes to suppress their identities. This issue gained urgency after Paominlen Haokip filed a complaint with the National Commission for Scheduled Tribes (NCST). Alarmingly, the signatures of several tribal representatives were forged in the complaint, implicating them without their knowledge or consent.

The tribal representatives urged Chief Minister Singh to take immediate action to nullify the NCST complaint. They strongly condemned the forgery, emphasizing the urgent need for transparency and justice in addressing their grievances.

The Chief Minister assured both the IDPs and the tribal representatives that their concerns would be addressed promptly. The administration’s commitment to ensuring the rights and well-being of these communities was underscored throughout the meetings.

These developments highlight the complex socio-political dynamics in the region and the government’s efforts to navigate and resolve them effectively.
