Heart-Wrenching Tragedy: Kerala Man Loses Entire Family in Devastating Wayanad Landslides
Kerala Landslides: Man Loses 16 Family Members in Wayanad Tragedy
The catastrophic landslides on July 30 in Kerala’s Wayanad district have overwhelmed communities, particularly in Mundakkai, Punchirimattam, and Chooralmala. Among the most affected is Mansoor, a 42-year-old resident of Chooralmala, who tragically lost 16 members of his family, including his mother, wife, and two children.
"The landslide took everything from me," Mansoor told PTI, his eyes red from tears and sleepless nights. He avoided the disaster only because he was at work when it happened. "We’ve recovered four bodies—my wife, son, sister, and mother. But my daughter is still missing. I’m left with nothing and am currently staying with my brother," he added.
Nasir, Mansoor’s brother, elaborated on the heartbreak, explaining how their family home was obliterated. Nasir had moved away from the area but Mansoor, along with their mother and sister, remained. When water levels started to rise, Nasir urged them to leave for safety. Unfortunately, they felt secure and stayed back, resulting in unimaginable loss.
"We didn’t receive any warning from authorities," Nasir accused, noting the absence of alerts prior to the disaster. Search operations are frantically ongoing in the worst-hit areas. As of now, twelve family members remain unaccounted for, adding to the distress of those left behind.
