Centre’s Swift Action Brings Relief to Mizoram’s Decades-Old Woes
Aizawl, the capital city of Mizoram, has received a significant boost with the central government’s efforts to address the long-standing issues faced by the Mizo people. According to Vanlalhmuaka, the state president of the BJP, the resolution of the Bru repatriation issue is a major milestone. “For over 23 years, no government could resolve the matter, but in 2019, Union Home Minister Amit Shah successfully brought a solution,” he said, highlighting the decade-long challenge that was finally overcome.
Another significant development is the relocation of Assam Rifles from the heart of Aizawl city to Zokhawsang, a demand of the Mizos since 1987-88. Vanlalhmuaka emphasized the importance of this move, saying, “On April 1, 2023, Amit Shah inaugurated the new Assam Rifles battalion headquarters at Zokhawsang, and on March 15, 2025, the land vacated by Assam Rifles in Aizawl was officially handed over to the Mizoram government.” This move was necessary due to Aizawl’s congestion and lack of space for future development. The vacated land will contribute to making Aizawl one of the most beautiful cities in India, as expressed by Vanlalhmuaka.
Concerns surrounding the alleged plan to hand over Lengpui Airport to the Indian Air Force (IAF) were also addressed by Vanlalhmuaka. “Amit Shah had assured Chief Minister Lalduhawma that the airport would remain a civilian facility under the Airports Authority of India (AAI),” he said. This commitment has been deeply appreciated by the BJP Mizoram, as they believe it is critical to address the concerns of the people.
Under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi and guidance of Amit Shah, the government has provided an opportunity to alleviate the hardships of the Mizos. “We should be grateful for it,” concluded Vanlalhmuaka, emphasizing the party’s support for utilizing the land for the city’s growth and development. With these developments, the people of Aizawl and Mizoram can look forward to a brighter future, one that is filled with promise and possibility.
As the central government continues to address the long-standing issues facing the Mizo people, it is clear that this is a momentous time for the region. With the resolution of the Bru repatriation issue, the relocation of Assam Rifles, and the reassurance surrounding Lengpui Airport, the people of Aizawl can look forward to a more secure and prosperous future. As Vanlalhmuaka reflected, this is a moment of gratitude, one that the party will continue to support and nurture.
