Aishwarya Sushmita Opens Up About Casting Couch Experience and Career Journey

Aishwarya Sushmita, who recently featured in Disney+ Hotstar’s series ‘Bad Cop’, has candidly spoken about the casting couch in the entertainment industry. In an exclusive chat with IndiaToday.in, she revealed her encounters with directors and casting directors who contacted her during odd hours. Addressing the prevalence of the casting couch, Aishwarya emphasized that it’s not the only path to success. She highlighted her commitment to attending auditions and her dedication to hard work without compromising her values.

Reflecting on her early career, Aishwarya shared that she was subjected to suggestions that success solely depended on compromising one’s morals. She stated, "In the initial days, people used to say you can’t make it without sleeping around. These things affected me, but I chose my own path."

Aishwarya began her career as a model, scoring a major milestone as the Kingfisher Calendar Girl in 2016. She recounted advice she received from a magazine founder about the necessity of networking, which initially scared her but also steeled her resolve to stay true to her principles. "I was always confident. I never wanted to compromise my values," she added.

Addressing her experiences, Aishwarya stressed that the casting couch is not unique to the entertainment industry. She mentioned people in her hometown, Delhi, asking if she had to compromise to get where she is, but she assured that she moved past those moments without yielding.

Despite ‘Bad Cop’ receiving mixed reviews, Aishwarya remains receptive to criticism. "Criticism keeps you grounded," she said, appreciating the unexpected positive reception of her character Kiki after her role in Netflix’s ‘Khakee’. This feedback has motivated her to explore diverse roles.

Looking ahead, Aishwarya is gearing up for another OTT project while she continues to aim for her big screen debut. Her perseverance and integrity in navigating the industry serve as an inspirational journey for many.
