Golden Care at Your Doorstep: Mizoram’s Universal Healthcare Scheme Launched, Effective from April 1!
Mizoram Launches Ambitious Universal Healthcare Scheme, Promising Seamless Coverage for Citizens
Mizoram Chief Minister Lalduhoma has officially launched the state’s new Universal Healthcare Scheme, set to come into effect in April this year. The initiative is designed to replace existing healthcare programs, providing comprehensive medical coverage for citizens while ensuring seamless services for empanelled hospitals. The scheme is the result of a thorough assessment of the state’s healthcare progress over the past five years, despite financial constraints.
The Chief Minister highlighted the strong link between development and public well-being, emphasizing the need for a robust healthcare system. He expressed confidence that the people of Mizoram would welcome this initiative, which will be paperless, fully digital, and cashless, eliminating out-of-pocket expenses for beneficiaries.
The scheme will cover government employees, civil pensioners, the general public, and holders of the Ayushman Bharat Pradhan Mantri Jan Arogya Yojana (AB PM-JAY) Golden Card. Citizens can enroll within the designated registration period, with an annual family registration fee of ₹2,500 providing medical coverage of up to ₹5,00,000 per family. Contributions from government employees and civil pensioners will be deducted from their monthly salaries.
The government has allocated ₹14.50 crore to clear pending medical bills, ensuring a smooth transition to the new scheme. The Chief Minister assured that discussions are ongoing with the Asian Development Bank (ADB) for a loan, but the government remains committed to implementing the program even if the loan does not materialize.
In a media briefing, the Chief Minister answered questions about the scheme’s implementation, providing a glimpse into the comprehensive plan. The launch event was chaired by H. Lalengmawia, Commissioner & Secretary, and attended by various dignitaries, including the Speaker, Home Minister, Health & Family Welfare Minister, and others.
As the scheme gains momentum, it promises to revolutionize healthcare in Mizoram, providing citizens with greater access to quality medical care. With its digital and cashless architecture, the program aims to reduce out-of-pocket expenses and increase the overall efficiency of the healthcare system. As the state government continues to prioritize their commitment to healthcare, the people of Mizoram can look forward to a better, more comprehensive, and more sustainable healthcare system.
