Shocking Revelation: Jackie Shroff Wore Only 4 Shirts During ‘Parinda’ Shoot, Unveils Vidhu Vinod Chopra
Mumbai, July 30: Filmmaker and producer Vidhu Vinod Chopra, renowned for his recent film ’12th Fail,’ shared a captivating story behind his cult-classic film ‘Parinda’ on the Instagram account of his production company. An archival video re-shared on the platform captures a conversation between Vidhu and director Sudhir Mishra, where Vidhu reveals that ‘Parinda’ was made on a minimal budget, driven by the collective effort of its cast and crew.
Vidhu recounted the film’s inception with a poignant scene featuring two brothers in childhood. When the younger brother complains of hunger, the elder comforts him with, “Rota kyun karta hai? Main hoon na” (Why do you cry? I’m here for you).
Additionally, he shared production details such as Jackie Shroff wearing only four shirts (blue, black, brown, and dark green) for his role, and Anil Kapoor, who played Shroff’s brother, also donning the same shirts along with his own jeans. The black Fiat 123 used in the film was Jackie’s personal car, incorporated due to strict budget limitations rather than any narrative purpose.
Reflecting on his journey, Vidhu mentioned that prior to ‘Parinda’, he had made ‘Khamosh’, which struggled with distribution. This experience spurred him to craft a more commercial venture with ‘Parinda’.
He also reminisced about the film’s premiere, where he exclaimed to Jackie and Anil, “My God, you guys look like stars!” upon seeing them in suits. Jackie, a close friend of Vidhu’s, retorted, “What do you mean? Hum stars hain” (We are the stars), a moment Vidhu cherishes, highlighting his then-limited realization of their star power amidst the film’s budgetary constraints.
