A new biography reveals the depths of Princess Kate’s struggles to present a united front alongside Meghan Markle and Prince Harry. According to Newsweek, following Queen Elizabeth II’s passing in September 2022, Prince William extended an olive branch, inviting the Duke and Duchess of Sussex to join him and Kate in viewing memorial floral tributes. This public appearance marked the first joint outing of the four since Harry and Meghan’s final event as working royals at the Commonwealth Day Service in March 2020.
Royal author Robert Jobson gives an insider’s perspective on Kate’s emotional turmoil in his forthcoming book, Catherine, the Princess of Wales, scheduled for release by Pegasus in America on August 6. “Amid all the grief at the Queen’s death, William, now Prince of Wales and heir to the throne, took decisive action. Picking up the phone to Harry, he suggested that they and their wives put on a show of unity for the sake of their late grandmother by viewing the floral tributes at Windsor together. Harry accepted,” Jobson writes.
Jobson notes that while images of the event suggested a seamless return to their so-called "Fab Four" dynamic, the reality was far different for Kate. Her emotional strain was so intense that she later confided to a Royal Family member that the walkabout was one of the toughest experiences she’d ever endured.
Adding to the narrative of Kate’s perpetual public duties, she has only missed Wimbledon once since her marriage to Prince William in 2011, specifically in 2013, when her doctor recommended rest before the birth of Prince George.
