Election 2023: Assam’s Kamrup Admin Meets with Political Parties Ahead of Rabha Hasong Council Polls
Kamrup District Prepares for Rabha Hasong Autonomous Council Elections, Polls to Take Place on April 2
The electoral landscape in Kamrup district is set to undergo a significant transformation as preparations for the upcoming Rabha Hasong Autonomous Council (RHAC) elections kick off. The Assam State Election Commission has issued directives, and the District Election Officer, Dev Kumar Mishra, has convened a meeting with political party representatives to discuss crucial election-related aspects.
The highly anticipated polls will feature 16 constituencies, with 10 reserved for Scheduled Tribes (STs) and one for Scheduled Tribe (Women). The latter will be constituency 24, Luki. The remaining four unreserved constituencies, including 26, 27, 28, and 30, will be up for grabs. Notably, constituency 36, Rani, will be reserved for women.
The election schedule has been revealed, with key dates including nomination submission deadline on March 15, scrutiny of nominations on March 17, and publication of the valid candidates’ list on the same day. The withdrawal of candidature deadline is set for March 19, followed by the final candidate list announcement on the same day. Polling will take place on April 2, with re-polling (if necessary) scheduled for April 3. Vote counting will begin on April 4, and the election results will be declared the same day.
At the meeting with party representatives, Mishra touched upon critical election-related aspects, such as the Model Code of Conduct, nomination procedures, and campaign expenditure limits. The event was attended by senior officials, including Siddhartha Goswami, Chief Executive Officer of Kamrup Zila Parishad, and Sushanta Kumar Dutta, District Development Commissioner.
The introduction of the Model Code of Conduct has been enforced in the Rabha Hasong Autonomous Council areas, signaling a new chapter in the region’s electoral history. As the inaugural elections kick off, stakeholders are eager to see the democratic process unfold and the voices of the people be heard.
